Just a few days ago, two powerful earthquakes shook northern Venezuela. Within seconds, houses were damaged or destroyed, and many families lost their homes.
Fortunately, our project partner in Caracas weathered the earthquakes relatively well. Although the Hogar Bambi children’s home shows cracks and minor structural damage, the children and staff are safe. We are deeply grateful for this. For many others, however, the struggle is only just beginning. With their homes rendered uninhabitable, numerous families have set up makeshift shelters in parks and on green spaces. “The streets are filled with people sleeping on mattresses, blankets, or in sleeping bags—often without knowing when they will have a safe roof over their heads again. It is simply terrible,” says project manager Erika Spillmann, who is on the ground.
We want to stand by these families now. We will provide emergency aid, supporting those affected with food, drinking water, hygiene supplies, and other urgently needed relief items.
